Re: Trumps insincere ceasefire agenda and his diplomatic failures

Romano discussed the goal of Trump, with Netanyahu was to sabotage the ceasefire deal with Hamas. He claimed that obstinate endeavoring by Trump and Netanyahu to extend the first stage of the ceasefire demonstrated their lack of will to enter the second phase of the ceasefire, dedicated to ending the conflict.

Trump experienced an early success in assisting Biden in negotiating the hostage release and ceasefire, as Romano set forth. Trump however followed by massive failure in his own diplomacy by making serious errors, namely by suggesting that he transform Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” after ridding the Gaza strip of all Gazans.

He pointed out that Trump’s motivation in pushing for the ceasefire was in fact mainly political, to generate headlines and achieve success before the elections. He endeavored to show the world that he could achieve what Biden could not.

Trumps insincerity in the ceasefire, according to Romano, manifested almost immediately after he took office – when he started calling for the forced displacement and ethnic cleansing of Gazans.

Romano claimed that trump’s proposal was met with overwhelming international rejection, and he was frustrated by not being able to find a quick solution to the conflict. As such, he seeks revenge against the world and seeks to punish Palestinians by approving Israeli bombing, giving rise to a vicious scale of violence against Palestinians.

Romano updates on the Freedom Flotilla, blocked in Istanbul port due to pressure from Israel and the United States.

He also comments on the hypocrisy of the Turkish Government:

For example, 1) President Erdogan laments over the genocide and the famine in Gaza, and 2) claims that Turkey will join South African in its genocide case against Israel before the ICJ.

Romano also indicated that 3) Erdogan recently said Turkey is “doing everything in its power to end as soon as possible the “barbarism” that has claimed the lives of 40,000 innocents in Gaza over the past ten months”

Romano emphasizes however that Erdogan, a blatant hypocrite, has done all he can to stop the activists on the Freedom Flotilla from sailing to Gaza. He has also blocked the cargo ships containing 5,500 tons of food, water and medicine from sailing to Gaza, which addresses the barbaric deprivation of Gazans of those essential things to keep them alive.

Romano gives an update of the Freedom Flotilla and the possibility of it sailing soon with activists from 42 countries and bringing 5,500 tons of food and medicine to starving Gazans in need of life saving medicine.

 

He states, however, that he expects that the Flotilla will be hijacked by Israeli agents in international waters and taken to an Israeli port. He hopes that the goods, after inspection will be forwarded to Gaza.

Johnny Vedmore noted that Romano was imprisoned before in Israel and asked him to recount that incident. Romano recounted that he was defending a town of Palestinian Bedouins called “Al Khan al Ahmar” in the West Bank when an Israeli soldier arrived in the village driving a bulldozer. He intended to destroy the village. Romano and other activists successfully blocked the bulldozer with their bodies. As the bulldozer withdrew from the village, Romano other activists were arrested by Israeli agents.

He stated that since the village has become an epicenter of Palestinian resistance, especially after he and other activists had blocked the bulldozer. As such, the Israeli government is now opposed to its destruction since it would incur bedlam with the Palestinian reaction. To this day, Romano states, the village has not been destroyed.

 

Romano also address concerns that electing the far right leaders in Israel. . . launching an extreme version of far right Zionism, and ethnic cleansing in favor of Jews over non-Jews. . .indicates that Israeli Jews massively support extremist, far right political Zionism.

 

He rejects that by explaining that this extremist form of Zionism has taken hold of Israeli politics by a clever scheme of coalitions, placing far right groups in a position to control government.

In fact, Netanyahu’s coalition having entrenched itself in the political machine, is difficult to pry from power even if many Israelis disapproves of government policies, including the discriminatory nature of the Israeli government which clearly advocates and implements an apartheid state.

Frank Romano’s story of his adventure in a Moroccan mosque from where he was prevented from leavening. An American teaching at the University of Paris, Frank was on his way to “Israel/Palestine” by way of Casablanca. He stopped at the mosque to learn more about Islam, and then unexpectedly found himself a captive within its walls. Frank finally got to “Israel/ Palestine” and has been working to bring Jews and Muslims, Israelis and Palestinians to recognize the benefits of cooperation and co-existence. He is organizing a series of Peace Marches from Jerusalem to Ramallah and from Ramallah to Jerusalem, later this fall.
